eax81w7hve is spamming again
@StephenFromNY
Well I haven't seen any of the admins this weeks but if I do I'll raise the post with them. Would you happen to be on twitter? I want to bounce something off you.Posted 3 years ago # -
@crenn
The LeafLabs group has my email contact info. Hopefully, one the admins will see these posts and either quickly send my email address to you or your contact info to me.
Looking forward to bouncing ideas.

Maybe we do a list from the last purge of everyone reporting spamming?
Edit (by Stephen): @crenn, I agree, I merged my list into yours (and deleted the list I started). Is listing one spammer per line easier for the admins when they delete the users?Edit (by Crenn): I think it would be better to do one line per post. I'll go through next week and add to this list. gbulmer, do you agree?

@gulmer:
I do not know if you missed the question by @crenn related to maintaining just one list of spam authors. If having just one alphabetized list of users to delete makes it easier for the LeafLabs admins then they might delete the spam accounts more frequently.
Edit:
For my amusement I will edit this post each time I delete spam:
[ 36 ] spams deleted by StephenFromNYC (since "mid" September).

Sorry I had got into my usual rhythm of copying the spanners names, and missed it.
I've now moved the names from my post into crenn's.
And added about 6 more today :-(Posted 3 years ago # -
I should admit, I am becoming a bit disheartened about the amount of repeated spam that is posted, and the action that LeafLabs admins take.
I did a very quick, totally unscientific check, and found a user who has spamed within the last couple of weeks, and who has been a member of the forum since July. That user appears to have "no more topics", I assume because they have all been deleted because they were all spam. So I feel like that user should have to jump through, at least, a few hoops, that consume their human effort, before being able to post again. Am I being too hard?
I have done a quick check of bbPress plugins to control spam, but didn't find what I'd hoped for, i.e. something to make spam harder to send once a user's post has been identified as spam. For you folks who might be much more into bbPress than me, is their something that could be added easily to the forum to reduce the attractiveness of this forum to spammers?

@gbulmer-
I am not a bbPress guru. Maybe a better place for the following idea is the bbPress "please add this feature" page. I think we are describing the same goal. After any post is deleted by a moderator as spam that user's account would be automatically frozen until an admin decides the post was not spam and unlocks the account. Usually this would occur after the user contacts the admin and complains "My post was deleted and my account was frozen. Why?"
On the LeafLabs forum I am not aware of any legitimate post which was deleted as spam.
Yes, this extra layer of protection might be easiest to activate as a post-install plug-in, but if one were to add a few functions to the source code and recompile the same effect could be achieved.
Just my two cents.
Edit:
@crenn and @gbulmer,
I just sent you emails. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

@LeafLabs-
This morning I just deleted 8 spam posts (which were added over the last 7 hours). A few were from familiar accounts.
We now have spammer names starting with all letters of the alphabet except for O and V.
The list of spammer accounts is getting long.
Should we use pastebin?

Hey all,
Thank you so much for your help and vigilance. Apparently, some new bbpress exploit has been uncovered, as we saw a HUGE increase in new spam accounts and spam activity in the past 30 days. In addition to your filtering, over 6000 posts were filtered by our automated tools.
Most of the new activity was in September. However, we manually crawled through all new user registrations since June, and deleted nearly 2000 accounts.
There are still plenty of obviously spam accounts in the system, we will complete this project in a couple of passes.
We err'ed on the side of deleting a suspicious account, so its possible we flagged some false positive and killed legitimate accounts, sorry about that! I cant imagine more than 5 accounts were affected in this way.
We will also be beefing up captcha use around the forums.
Thanks again,

poslathian - could you create a private 'admins' forum (Edit: as suggested by crenn; sorry crenn)?

Suggested by me.
