We're working on a systematic method to minimize our spam vulnerability, but for now we just cleaned it up. Beating CAPTCHA's is just too easy these days.
Sorry about the Spam!

So... Maybe you guys might want to try that... At least it's easy to see what is and isn't spam right now. I like Gbulmer's original idea of having new threads pass through a moderator first.

Adafruit also has a nice spam protection system where the user has to decipher resistor values. You might want to ask them. :D

So I dumped a moderator plugin into our forum engine (bbpress). Its not exactly what we what, it basically gives moderator-users privileges to delete posts. With more time we can mod the plugin or find a better one (anyone have any good recommendations).
I gave moderator access to 3 upstanding, high volume posters. Hopefully reducing the chances of full page take-over by spam. Ideally what we want though, instead of offering the privilege to delete, we want to offer the privilege to approve.
Well put something together, for now have the moderator hack.

Awwr! I'm a little disappointed to find out that I'm not a upstanding or high volume poster :P

So I looked at this post just for kicks. Crenn is told to look again. I'm not Crenn, but I look and see "Moderator" next to his name. Then I scroll up and get a perchance look at my name, and see "Moderator." Spam will become a myth from the dark ages of the internet.

LeafLabs - Have you got any closer to a better spam solution?
Posted 5 years ago # -
new registrants will now be queried with DIFFICULT addition problems upon registration.
we will see how effective it is. Perhaps we should increase the difficulty of the problems.
anyway, now that we have the base level "captcha" in there we can hack on it in whatever way pleases us.
any good ideas for the leaflabs human test? we will implement the best idea. So far it is to shamelessly copy the awesome adafruit human-test, which is to decode the resistor

Is the system blocking users who have had their first post deleted?
