Are you still using KiCAD or would you recommend something else?

its not perfect, but we feel its a better solution for sharing board files and such than eagle, which is not open source.

Why not gEDA? I thought it was the standard open source designer tool, comes with most distros, seems to have big community behind it, etc.

gEDA is actually a set of tools, that loosely play nice together. Overall it is a great toolkit, but it seemed to us the transition from Eagle to KiCad would be softer than to gEDA. Plus, at this time, we dont have a need for 75% of whats in the gEDA bundle (spice etc.)

I am thinking of moving from Eagle, partly 'cos the UI drives me *NUTS*, and partly because it isn't open enough.
I'd *much* prefer real Open Source, but I could live with a free tool:
- on all 3 platfoms, Linux, Mac and Windows,
- that lets me do 4 layer boards 'cos (I can't justify/afford more layers), and
- a full 160mm x 100mm (as that is low-cost from Olimex, though I've yet to try them out).Have you made any boards from the KiCAD output?
A friend is trying KiCAD, and liked the schematic capture, but wasn't as happy with PCB routing.
Have you any comments you'd like to share? Especially on PCB routing, making library parts, and CAM (generating Gerbers, drill file etc).BTW - what Gerber viewer do you use?
