Problems to get the board working.

Dear all,

Because I ran out of possibilities with the Arduino, I bought a Olimexino STM32.
When I first plugged it to my PC (Vista), it asked for drivers, so I told the pc where to get them, in the Olimexino folder. Something must have gone wrong. I did see the assignment of the board to com22, but now I cannot find it in the IDE. It was the that I started to look for more information. What I learned so far is that I need to load the bootloader to the board, but I do not have a clue how to do that. I did use the LibUSB work around of Bionic Badger, but now I am stuck.

Can anybody please help?

hmm. never used an olimexino board. does it have a perpetual bootloader mode?
On LeafLabs hardware, you can upload new sketched to the board even if the serial port does not come up in the ports menu, by putting it into perpetual bootloader mode.

Hi Poslathian,

I found the Olimexino board on the website of one of my suppliers. After receiving the board I learned that it has the same interfacing and look and feel as the Maple 003 (never heard of that product before, sorry). The board has a perpetual bootloader mode and when I put the board in that mode, I see an new entry in my device manager popping op showing libUSB-Win32 Devices and attached to that Maple 003.
But I have no clue how to load arduino an arduino scetch in the board.

on our boards, when in perpetual bootloader mode and using our ide, you should just be able to hit upload and watch it go. I dont know exactly what the software side differences are on olimexino. Perhaps its the same for there hardware and IDE.

That was the clue that made things work. Thanks.
I could load Blink to the board and run it using the perpetual bootloader mode. After that, Windows started asking for drivers and now I can see the board as port 22 in the IDE.
Also AnalogOutSerial demo works fine.

Where can I learn morge about this bootloader and archtectural backgrounds?

again - you are on the leaflabs forums, I dont know what olimex has done. but all our documentation is at leaflabs.com/docs/ and it has quite a comprehensive amount of info on the bootloader and other technical details. you know, open source hardware and all that ;)

Yes, I see your point. Olimex claim their product is compatible and they refer to the maple IDE. Well, I think this is something to sort out in the coming long winternights. I already experienced that libraries are totally different from the arduino ones so it is not so easy for me to make the step from Arduino to the much more powerfull STM32. No problem, I am patient and I can start with the stuff I do understand.
