Hi,

My first maple (rev. 3 nr 159? (it's written on the bag it came in)) started to behave strange some time ago. I wasn't able to flash using the USB bootloader. All i got in dmesg (Ubuntu 10.01 32&64 bit) was

After that it should normally be a line like "cdc_acm 1-1.2:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device", but that didn't show up. Then it started to work again for a couple of days (but I only used it like two times during that period).

But now it appears to be stuck in that faulty mode permanently.

It's the same behavior on two different computers. (and my other Maple works on both).

I've tried to reflash the bootloader (with the serial bootloader) but that will not help. The blue led is flashing after reset so the bootloader seems to be running.

Any ideas?

that is very mysterious. Perhaps the usb connector is coming loose? We sometimes get this sort of voodoo behavior where, the usb port starts to enumerate but fails, when were testing hand-assembled protos and theres something not totally right with either the usb header or the MCU being ill seated on the pads.

Also, I should point out that if there is no user sketch uploaded (say after reflashing the bootloader) you wont ever see a USB ACM device enumerate, but you will see the DFU device enumerate.

In your case it sounds like hardware. Try putting pressure (downwards) against the usb port and hitting reset. Also try putting downward pressure on the MCU.

If thats what fixes it then ship it back to us and well swap it out for you. We havnt seen that problem in any release boards yet, but our fab for rev3 is different for our fab for rev5.

I suspected something like that too. Actually I did put pressure on the USB connector the last time I got it working, since I had read about someone here who's USB connector came off. I'll do some more tests tomorrow (I have that Maple at work).

Did you use stm32loader.py to reflash the bootloader? If so, did you see "Verification OK" at the end?

Yes, since it's used by the Makefile. And I got verification OK.

I was able to flash when I push hard on the USB connector, so it's probably a bad soldering there.

Here's an image. It looks about the same on my other Maple. Hard to see any defect.
