Computer doesn't recognize Maple

Hey all,

I've decided to delve into the Maple lately, but had some problems trying to upload a program. I'm using an old Maple board (I can't tell what version -- what are the recognizable features?) on ubuntu 11.10. When I plug the Maple in via USB, the blue light turns on and blink, signaling that it is getting power.

However, it doesn't seem that my computer recognizes it at all! The 'Serial Port' dropdown in the IDE is greyed out and doesn't allow me to select an option. I've tried looking at my devices and I don't see anything under /dev/ like I normally do for an arduino.

I can try uploading a program, but the IDE throws an error:

"Reset via USB Serial Failed! Did you select the serial right serial port? Assuming the board is in perpetual bootloader mode and continuing to attempt dfu programming..."

followed by

"Couldn't find the DFU device: [1EAF:0003]"

Any thoughts on what is causing this?

as to the problem you're having, can you paste the dmesg output when you plug the board in?

It's a rev1 (wow! this thing is old; it belongs to my roommate...).

After plugging/unplugging the device a handful of time, dmesg had for me:

so are things working?

if not, have you made sure to install the udev rules and made sure you're part of the plugdev group? for reference:

I've installed the udev rules and mad esure I'm part of the plugdev group -- I've actually gotten the maple to work before on one of my two computers, and after attempting to load a sketch with a second computer for the first time, it doesn't work.

I've gone back and tried it on computer #1 (that i was successful with once) and this computer also doesn't recognize my maple anymore -- so it appears that the problem is with the board and not the software.

However, as indicated above, my computer seems to notice that its getting plugged in... any thoughts on what's causing this?

Did you try to upload a program into RAM ? After I tried to do this and my Maple R6 is no longer
recognized either. However the LED does the startup blinking and then turns off. I can get it to go
into continuous download mode (LED stays on) but I can't use the IDE. There was an entry in the
forums about 10 months ago about this but as far as I can tell there has been no fix posted.

P.S. A useful command for seeing what USB devices are attached is lsusb. There are a few options to
print out more or less information. It is available in Debian and Mepis so I would be surprised
if it wasn't also available in Ubuntu.

The device isn't even listed as as a connected Serial Port, so I can't try downloading anything ram. When I tried lsusb, it doesn't seem to show up either -- the listed devices are the same whether the maple is plugged in or not.

Upon further inspection, it /briefly/ as:

Bus 001 Device 021: ID 1eaf:0003

and then it disappears.

wow, bummer. loose USB connector, maybe? the board is about three years old at this point, so i wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. you might want to take a close look to ensure the solder looks good. also try pressing down on the USB connector and/or the MCU when you reset it; if that helps, then you've definitely got connection problems.

just spitballing, but the next thing i would try if i were in your shoes is reflash the bootloader just to make sure everything's "factory default". that's harder to do with a rev 1 since there's no BUT button, so make sure you follow the workaround linked to on the bootloader page.

Argh, I'm having a similar problem now with Maple RET6. I have been using it since march, and today was re-doing some tests with arduino SD/RTC shield.

IDE and linux don't see /dev/ttyACM* any longer. Uploads fail. Power cycle and reset results in the usual LED flashes, but IDE says Couldn't find the DFU device: [1EAF:0003]
if I press reset just as upload begins, it thinks it's uploading, but simple Blink doesn't run ?

lsusb shows nothing, dfu-util -l reports nothing

I put it into perpetual bootloader mode, LED flashes .... and dfu-util -l reports

Found DFU: [0x1eaf:0x0003] devnum=19, cfg=0, intf=0, alt=0, name="DFU Program RAM 0x20000C00"
Found DFU: [0x1eaf:0x0003] devnum=19, cfg=0, intf=0, alt=1, name="DFU Program FLASH 0x08005000"

from IDE uploaded examples/Blink ... but sketch doesn't appear to run -- no LED blink....

suggestions? ...

Ooops, never mind. pilot error, i guess. When I went to change config to try flash instead of ram,
i noticed that RET6 wasn't selected! I must have inadvertently reconfigured ??

whew. all is well, me thinks
