Finally got around to testing all my various maples - two Maple Rev 5s, one without headers, a Ret6 and a mini - and they all work except for the mini. "Couldn't find DFU device". Tried setting the perpetual boot loader with the reset and buts button on numerous occasions to no avail. Even tried this while it was searching for the DFU device, no good. Get the first fast blinks then a continuous stream of slightly slower blinks. It's not any software I've loaded on it, as I have never been able to get my Mac to recognize the device in any form, let along load something into it. So whatever its running came with it.

Any suggestions or help is very welcome; otherwise I'll need an RMA number so I can have it replaced.

Hi pra,

Can you give us some more information?

1) What release of the IDE and OS X are you using?

2) When the Maple Mini is plugged in and in perpetual bootloader mode, can you give us the output of running the command
$ dfu-util -l
from the Terminal? You can find dfu-util in the IDE .app bundle under
MapleIDE.app/Contents/Resources/Java/hardware/tools/arm/bin/dfu-util

3) (Again with the Mini in perpetual bootloader mode) Using System Profiler (in /Applications/Utilities), can you choose "USB" (under "Hardware" in the left-hand panel) and tell us if "Maple 003" appears anywhere?

** no mention of anything Maple, even though the mini is plugged in, supposedly in perpetual boot loader mode and led is flashing.

I have ordered another mini and hopefully I will have it by the weekend. If it works, then it will tell us something; if it doesn't it will tell us something different :-)

Peter,
I am sorry to hear you had trouble with the Mini. Thanks for the terminal dump, it certainly looks like the USB just isnt there. Every board is uploaded with a test sketch at the factory to verify the USB is working and the jack is correctly installed. However, it is possible that a bad solder joint somewhere broke free in transit. Send us an email at info at leaflabs com and we will see if we cant swap it out for you!

Hi,

My IDE is V0.0.12, Windows 7 64 bit.

I am also not able to download to the Maple Mini R2.

I try both to flash or to RAM.
The first time I plug in, it search for the driver, I point the driver to the maple folder witch is maple-ide-0.0.12-windowsxp32\driver and the driver can installed OK.
Now the Maple Mini has the LED keep turn on, not blinking at all. Even press Reset once, it just off for few seconds and turn back on, not blinking.

When I had select suitable port in the IDE and try to upload, it has following message

Binary sketch size is reported above. Check it against a 108000 byte maximum.

Loading via dfu-util
Resetting to bootloader via DTR pulse
Searching for DFU device [1EAF:0003]...
dfu-util - (C) 2007-2008 by OpenMoko Inc.
This program is Free Software and has ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY

Couldn't find the DFU device: [1EAF:0003]

Anyone know how to fix it.

Let me check to make sure I understand: when you press reset, the LED doesn't go through the bootloader blinking period (fast blinks, then slow blinks). It just turns on, and doesn't blink?

No, it does not blink. After reset, it turn off for few seconds and keep turn on all the time.
But it does show up a new COM port in the IDE under Serial Port selection.

That's very strange. It sounds like the bootloader is not functioning correctly.

Did you get the Maple Mini new, or was it used? If it's new, it sounds like the board should not have passed QA testing, and we're very sorry for the trouble you've been having. If you want to try to get the board you have working, you can try flashing a fresh bootloader (see below). Otherwise, please contact us at info@leaflabs.com so we can discuss a return.

If you've got the equipment (all you need is some jumper wire and an FTDI breakout board, like those available on SparkFun), you can try flashing a fresh bootloader using the instructions here:

Since you're using Maple Mini, make sure you tie BOOT1 (pin 2) to ground.

Is that also relate to the Windows 7? I had experience that my Arduino cannot be download using Windows 7, it only work on my Windows XP machine.

With Windows 7 64-bit, the DFU driver does not work with the included package. Try the instructions found in this link:

To make sure it is this problem, look in the Control Panel and open up the Device Manager. Put the Maple Mini into perpetual bootloader mode (Press and hold reset, straight after releasing the reset button, press the BUT button for 5-10 seconds or until the Maple Mini is flashing continously) and check that there isn't a 'warning' for the device under lib-usb32.

If the bootloader is not functioning correctly, then it will need to be reflashed, follow the direction mbolivar's post gives to reflash it.

Hi,

I setup Python27 on PC Windows Vista. Save the file stm32loader.py the same Python27 folder, also save maple mini bootloader binary then run the following command prompt.
It show the error of line 26. How to solve it?

Yes, I did download and installed that PySerial-2.6. But should I just put the PySerial at the root of C:\ or under Python27?
How the phtyon know the folder location?

It doesn't need to be in any exact place as far as I can see as you just need to run the setup script that's included in the download.

You should get an output similar to this:

If you don't recall something like this, try this:
1. Goto the start menu and type in cmd to get to the command prompt and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to start it in Administrative mode. Alternatively, goto All Programs->Accessories and right click on Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator".(Administrator mode probably is not needed)
2. Use "cd" to move to the directory you extracted pyserial to. Some zip programs will require you to extract the tar.gz file twice. If it's in a folder in the root of C:\, it will make it easier to get to. If you start in something like "C:\Windows\system32" when opening command prompt, just type in "cd \" as this will take you to the root of C:\.
3. Type in "dir /w" and ensure you can see setup.py
4. Type in "setup.py install" and it should install itself into the python install directory
