This does not work, pin 31 does not go on and off,
HardwareSPI spi(2);
void setup() {
pinMode(31, OUTPUT);
spi.begin(SPI_18MHZ, MSBFIRST, 0);
}
void loop() {
digitalWrite(31, LOW);
delay(1000);
digitalWrite(31, HIGH);
delay(1000);

if you comment out spi.begin line out it does work.
Is it supposed to work like this? if so how does one turn and and off CS line to start data transmission from SPI device?

Try:

spi.begin(SPI_18MHZ, MSBFIRST, 0);
pinMode(31, OUTPUT);
digitalWrite(31, HIGH);
}I know I had issues with SPI1 if I set the CS pinmode before starting the SPI. The spi.begin(...) modifies the gpio, so you want to configure it afterwards -- though this shouldn't matter technically.

Code is just for testing and I have already updated it, maybe once done I will clean it up and post something in the wiki, that is if the wiki hasn't been messed with! lol
