   When trying to upload a sketch to a V1 board i've been getting the "couldn't find the DFU device: [1EAF:0003]" error. In reading forum threads and what not it appears to be a fairly common problem that can be overcome by forcing the board into another boot loader state that doest not require the reset - this is the so called "perpetual boot loader mode."

   I followed the instructions from here: http://leaflabs.com/docs/errata.html

   and here: http://forums.leaflabs.com/topic.php?id=32#post-126

   The issue is that It doesn't appear that I'm ever able to get my board into the perpetual boot loader mode as I never get the long blinks indicated.

   I've tried this procedure (and several variations)
   1. Hit the Reset button -> get the 6 rapid blinks (i never got additional blinks described - just the rapid burst of 6 at beginning)
   2. Hit the reset button again and quickly short a wire between vcc and 5th pin on JTAG side of ARM chip - leave the short in place for several seconds - but never get any more blue blinks
   3. Subsequent presses of reset give the 6 rapid blinks again (which I believe confirms that we're NOT in perpetual boot loader mode)

   Should I be concerned that there no blinks following the original rapid burst?

   Any ideas and/or recommendations?

   zinger,
   Because the rev1's did not have a secondary button, that perpetual bootloader was not an active feature of the firmware flashed on the rev1's at shiptime. However you CAN flash a new bootloader on there using the serial bootloader. You mentioned you had seen the post here: http://forums.leaflabs.com/topic.php?id=32#post-118 about how to do this. Did you try flashing a new bootloader or just tried getting perpetual bootloader mode to work? Sorry if this was unclear.

   The serial bootloader is a feature of the stm32 itself, and thus works no matter what revision of the Maple bootloader you have, but you do need to do some skywiring on a Rev1 to get it to work. This whole process is described in the above post id=32#post-118. Let us know if this works for you! You can get the current bootloader from github here: http://github.com/leaflabs/maple-bootloader And you will need some serial device to flash it (ftdi, arduino, another maple). Were also experimenting with a new non-dfu bootloader that will work nicely with any Maple board, will keep the forum posted about this.
