Hello to everybody, I'm an electronics student at the university of Aveiro in Portugal, I just bought one stm32 discovery board and I would like to know if there is any gcc/free compiler for the processor included in the discovery board, because the suggested ones from the ST site are all very limited and I would like to make some complex programs with this little baby.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance ;)

The LeafLabs IDE builds using the codesourcery arm-gcc compiler. This is effectively GCC with some optimizations done by codesourcery for the cortex m3. Their changes are licensed under the GPL. You can visit their website at codesourcery.com, you want the "LITE edition"

Thanks, I have another doubt, can I use the LeafLabs IDE with the discovery board, maybe not, because the micro-controllers have some differences as the used in the mapple is the 103 and the one in the discovery is the 100.
Once again, thanks for your help!Posted 5 years ago # -
AFAIK the Atollic TrueSTUDIO, which is one of the development environments recommended for STM32 discovery board is not limited in any way. It can build projects which fill the MCU's flash.

hadnt heard of that company before. Thanks for the tip. In other news, I totally signed up for my free Harley....at least the form said "sign up and win!" so as far as I can tell, having signed up, Ive won the bike. Sweet.

I believe that is the meaning of the word "and", very well spotted.
I hope a few thousand others sign up ASAP, before they fix the wording. There was a UK company vacuum cleaner manufacturer who advertised a special air tickets offer if you bought a vacuum cleaner. They didn't expect to get more than a few % extra orders. Sadly, they didn't work out that they lost money on every vacuum cleaner sale that used the airticket offer. Stupidly, they didn't calculate that the vacuum cleaner price was *much* less money than the saving on the air tickets, so it was a "no-brainer". Families were buying 4 or 5 vacuum cleaners, and using the special offer to pay for their flights to Florida (or wherever). The company went bankrupt.
That's marketing for you :-(
I complained bitterly to ST about the "give us your details, and we'll give you a Harley" thing, being restricted to the Americas. But haven't heard anything back yet :-(
The European offer is for the STM32F100 VLDISCOVERY, which is much less interesting.
