gbulmer - regarding the OROne, is it for sale? Do you have a breadboard-able stamp version? Any plans for one?
OROne will be available for sale, but not in this quarter.
Based on lots of feedback, I am working on significant changes to make it smaller and hence more 'robot friendly'.
It is sort-of breadboardable (in the sense it is all 0.1" header) but not ideal. Due to feedback, including comments here, I've had an 'epiphany' about a stamp-version, and that is driving some of the changes.Part of my goal is to constrain the design so that it is DIY-able. A local school teacher begins 11 year olds on making SMD based electronics, and I thought it would be great to have something for them when they reach 16 (the training wheels get removed !-)
That board is made in a mini-oven using a solder-paste syringe, which is easier than normal soldering techniques. Are you able to make surface mount boards?
If you are interested, and might make it, I could send you a PCB when the next version is ready? You'd have to buy the parts of course :-)Posted 4 years ago # -
gbulmer - I'm actually an aerospace engineer specializing in structural dynamics for X-planes. I have no electrical background, although I do like tinkering with electronic gadgets, especially microcontrollers - the possibilities are endless. So I don't make surface mount boards. I'd rather buy one that's robust, well documented, well represented in a forum, programmable in C, and well priced. Thank you for asking, and good luck with your venture.

liam.ll - Sorry for trying :-)
It is easy to get folks to test finished boards, but harder to get anyone to volunteer to try making one.To be fair, the 11 year olds don't fully understand the electronics that they are making, but they do have an expert on hand to help.

leafblowers - just want to touch base and see how things are with the Maple Mini. Now that RET6 is out, will the Mini be available by the end of June perhaps?

End of june ? I really hope it will be available before...

The first 100 Maple Minis are on their way to us. DHL says they'll be here tomorrow! The rest of the fab run is still in manufacturing/testing.
I'm working on getting all the software/docs for Mini done right now. It looks like we'll need to do an 0.0.11 release, since there's no way I can finish all of the 0.1.0 milestones this week, and we want to get the boards into your hands ASAP.
As a promotion, we're going to put this first shipment on sale at a special price. Watch the blog for more details!

I love this idea of a 0.0.11 release :-)
Thank for the info,

Please count me in on one of the first 100 boards. :)
I've been very patiently waiting to get one.

Good to know it's not too long to go, so many applications for using these!

I'll see how one does on my tricopter. It may have a short but exciting life. :-)
My Discovery boards seem to last about two weeks on average before gravity or 'cough' wiring errors 'cough' do them in.Posted 4 years ago # -
hah, these things are pretty robust, but I dont think they would survive fire. Generally try to avoid this with projects.
One time we had this little omniwheel robot with an FPGA on it for a competition. We only had one FPGA board. The day before the competition (after a one month build), some shoddy wiring accidentally shorted the 36V of NiCad batteries together into a nice little flame ball and the robot was definitely on fire. given we only had one FPGA board we thought we were out for sure. But, low and behold, the damn thing survived! And then we won some stuff. Fond memories, although I recall some onion-cutting on the day of the fire...

Well I got my Mini for the price I wanted. But to the Leafblowers, the 32-bit wars are on! I'm not a PIC fan, but the new Uno32 price ($26.95) and capability can not be ignored. I'm annoyed they stole your Maple format factor. Maybe you should keep the Mini at $25 and deal with Fry's, Radioshack, digikey!
