   Has any user created a SD memory shield/library from the Arduino to the Maple?

   If so, tell me what you did.

   I did some research (below) and this is what I came up with.
   I have looked at the following libraries for Arduino to Maple SD library conversion:

   #1. Fat16 (Arduino Fat16 Library from Adafruit)
   #2. FileLogger (comes with SEEED Depot's SD card shield) <--- See note below
   #3. SDCard (Stripped down Roland Reigel library - raw SD card reading and writing)
   #4. SdFat (GNU General Public Licesne v3)
   #5. SDuFat (by David Cuartielles also made Filelogger above)
   #6. SDWriter (simple library based on uFat which allows you to write to the SD file as
   many bytes as you want at a time)

   Note: There are others but the above SD libraries are used the most on the Arduino.

   The problems with converting the above libraries to the Maple are many.
   In most cases, the SD library creators embedded raw (bit banged) SPI AVR commands into the libraries which will not work on the ARM Maple. Tearing away the AVR (Arduino SPI) and installing or patching the Maple's SPI proved very troublesome unless you are an ARM expert.

   From the above SD Libraries only one stands out to be the easiest to convert to the Maple - SDCard.

   Is anyone, on this board, up to this task?
   I would help in testing if possible.

   Note:
   The SD Card Shield from SEEED Depot is very cheap $13.90. You have to remove only the SMT resistors going to ground (R6,R4,R2 - part of resistor divider network --for 5 VDC to 3.3 v conversion) to make it work on the Maple.

   One user recently wrote in that they made some progress towards an SDFat port. I took a look at the standard SDFat code, and it does look fairly straightforward to port. It was written to nicely encapsulate the low level bit banging from the actual FAT fs support. Whether it comes from the user community or from us, I look forward to having this useful library addition added in short order.

   In an unrelated note, any SD library port on Maple will only work with certain brands of SD cards (this is true for arduino as well) because neither Maple nor arduino have hardware SDIO ports, so we communicate with the cards via SPI, which is supported by some manufacturers but not others. SDIO can be bit banged, however, at a great cost to performance. Using the 18MHz native SPI port on Maple, however, I'll bet you can kick the pants off of a bit banged SDIO implementation. Well find out soon enough. Incidentally, the stm32f103ZE chip on Maple Native does support hardware-native SDIO and comes standard with pads for an SDcard slot, although (once released) it will not likely be populated.

   According to STM - The SDIO 4 bit (there is a 1 bit mode) (with DMA) mode is the "high performance" SD interface. They consider the SPI mode "slower".

   Since the Maple has 2 SPI ports then that should be the route to go to save on I/O pins and easy porting from the Arduino.

   In table 3 on page 14/123 of the STM32F103x Datasheet it shows that SDIO is available but on the STM32F103x "High-density devices"
   So the RET6 part 64KB SRAM/256K Flash has the SDIO but the RBT6 20K/128K does not. I had suggested an upgrade to the 64K SRAM parts earlier and this would be an additional benefit, both parts are 64pin QFP and I believe pin compatible so it should be easy to order the next batch of boards with the more capable chip.

   we actually have a proto in the lab with this higher density chip. The next run is already setup to use the rbt6 medium density chip, but perhaps in the fall well see a jump to the next chip.

    On the Arduino forum there are over 152,172 views on the topic "SD card read/write
    with the Arduino" Please tell the developer, which is out of town, that a SD card SPI library is badly needed for the Maple!

    Point of clarification, is it just r/w over spi that you need or a FAT filesystem (probably via SDFat ported). The SDFat port has been thrown around a few times, last I checked a user was working on it! The r/w over spi is just...spi....which should be available via the HardwareSPI class.

    Hi,

    I just got Martin Thomas port of ChaN's FatFS up and running on a Maple with a microSD card. So if anyone have the time and knowledge it's just to dig in and start a Maple port :-; Here's some output from Martin's test terminal
