What state are your STM32F4 Libraries?

Yes that's exactly what I meant by Robinson Crusoe.

By minimum hook I mean rewriting and minimising that part of the Maple wiring and other routines that call the STM functions. Still reading so I may make more sense later.

I will also try to check out the Arm native bootloader as that is the logical starting point.

All the rest of your comments good. I too am an experimentalist - no point in guessing without actually following up by just doing it. Its not bridge building so nothing gets hurt if it goes wrong. Much harder to do a catch fire and burn code sequence these days.

Give me a few days as it has gotten busy again here with other matters.

I assume you mean the STM32F4's built in bootloader?
I agree, that is the logical place to start.
I have gathered all of the relevant documents I can find from ST, and will start reading soon.
At worst, I could use the Arduino UNO's Atmel USB device (only about £2 each) and use the STM32 USART-based loader which I have been using successfully over an FTDI USB/USART cable.

Yes built in bootloader. Almost clear of the backlog here and will then make a start on the reading.

Greg - I think it is worth noting that a lot of people have problems with Maple upload, especially on MS Windows.

AFAIK, part of the problem is the Maple changes its USB device class every time it flips to be a 'USB DFU' device for upload, then returns to being a USB serial device for SerialUSB. (There are many forum threads which describe the scenarios in detail.)

So, though it is *not* me preferred solution, using a cheap USB/USART adapter isn't as mad as it might sound :-)

I will probably post my 0.0.12 F4 port running on the Discovery F4 board after the next weekend. Have to make some tests to be sure I did not mess up the F1 support.
I have everything working needed to run the AeroQuad software, which is clock setup, GPIO, timer, USART, ADC and bit banging I2C, tested with an ITG3200, BMA180, HMC5843 and BMP085. FPU is working, have not used the hardware I2C and SPI at all, yet.
I still have not integrated the USB serial code I ported from an F2 example.
The boot code currently just initializes the CPU, plays with a led and jumps to the main code. I use the build in ST-Link V2 to upload code for now.

Have you ported those portions of libmaple (clock setup, GPIO, timer, USART, ADC and bit banging I2C), to the STM32F4, or something else?
I was just starting to work through the STM32F4 peripheral library, so this is great :-)

What is your toolchain?
Are you on MS Windows, or something else?
Are you using ST Micro's own Windows STLINK/V2 upload, or something else?

Fine. Now somebody will route MapleF4 board and Leaflabs will remain to start producing.

I think quite a lot of folks have F4 boards in the works, and the STM32F4 Discovery boards are insanely cheap for experiments (I have 5 or 6), so the software is more interesting :-)

Yes, as posted they work on my Discovery F4. The rcc and gpio stuff is in different files, other parts like the usart baud rate setting are modified to get the bus clock speeds from new functions. When compiled for a f1 CPU, the lib still works, but I have to check this again in detail.
I added new board types for the Discovery F4 and added two other boards we plan to use for the AeroQuad software and also extended the interrupt vector table.

I use the CodeSourcery toolchain and makefiles. As IDE I used VS2008 and use Eclipse now to be able to use the onboard debugger of the Discovery F4.

Yes, use it for uploading and debugging. The port was made without debugger, so the first steps were quite interesting :)

Building these binaries is exactly as you would do it with the original maple files. I assume you have the CodeSourcery toolchain or another gcc based toolchain installed.
First check that you get it compiled. In the libmaple directory call "make library" in a cmd.exe window if you work with windows, which should generate libmaple.a in the build directory.
To build the boot loader enter the maple-bootloader directory and call "make", which generates maple_boot.bin in the build directory. The FlashV2.bat file flashes it to your Discovery F4 using the STLink V2.
