5) grep on plugdev, you talk about adding one's self to the group but didn't give the explicit instructions.

Ah, I see. Good idea; done:

to StephenFromNYC:
The QtCreator webpages nudge you towards the purchased ones but with a little careful reading you can get the fully free one. Unless you are doing development for mobile devices you probably won't need to pay.

Hello AndyH-

I hope you are enjoying your Maple RET6 Edition board.

I do not know why the size of the 32-bit linux download doubled in size during the IDE 0.0.10 to 0.0.11 update.

The size of the Windows download doubled in size (but earlier) during the 0.0.9 to 0.0.10 transition.

The size of the Mac OS download has been stable during these same periods.

For your own comparisons here is the directory with all the downloads:

http://static.leaflabs.com/pub/leaflabs/maple-ide/

Thanks for recommending the Qt Creator IDE (which is much smaller than the development SDK). They seem to be open source, but I have not confirmed this.

http://qt.nokia.com/products/developer-tools/

Thanks!

Stephen from NYC (full disclosure: I am not a member of the LeafLabs staff)

Hey AndyH,

Welcome to the forums! We hope you enjoy your RET6.

Many thanks for the corrections. A revised IDE install page is up:

http://leaflabs.com/docs/maple-ide-install.html#maple-ide-install

Responses inline.

1) URL on packaging is bad, gets you a 404.

Fixed, thanks. I neglected to update the redirects when 0.0.11 came out.

2) size of linux download is >60MB, not 30ish.

I dropped the file sizes from the docs themselves; everyone's browser will tell them that information, anyway.

3) phrase "root permissions": on ubuntu you will be prompted "[sudo] password:"

I've added a parenthetical comment to that effect.

4) (ubuntu 10.04) "/etc/init/d/udev restart" gets you a blurb pointing out that "sudo restart udev"
is what you should type. Also the previous needs a sudo.

Sorry, "the previous"?

5) plugdev: "sudo adduser <your username> plugdev" will ensure you can access the Maple, but will typically report that you are already a member of plugdev.

"git grep adduser" turns up nothing in both the libmaple and maple-ide repos, so I can't tell what you're referring to here.

6) Hello World example: mentions setting the baudrate to 9600, but since it is using SerialUSB baudrate is irrelevant.

Right you are; I must have neglected to update that some time ago. Fixed.

7) sandwich makings: try cutting the mayo and adding honey (and some dried milk powder for better nutrition)

But the fat makes it good! Status: wontfix ;).

I just got my Maple RET6, and am so glad I didn't have to design this myself:)
Here are a bunch of documentation corrections, all minor.
1) URL on packaging is bad, gets you a 404.
2) size of linux download is >60MB, not 30ish.
3) phrase "root permissions": on ubuntu you will be prompted "[sudo] password:"
4) (ubuntu 10.04) "/etc/init/d/udev restart" gets you a blurb pointing out that "sudo restart udev" is what you should type. Also the previous needs a sudo.
5) plugdev: "sudo adduser <your username> plugdev" will ensure you can access the Maple, but will typically report that you are already a member of plugdev.
6) Hello World example: mentions setting the baudrate to 9600, but since it is using SerialUSB baudrate is irrelevant.
7) sandwich makings: try cutting the mayo and adding honey (and some dried milk powder for better nutrition)

FYI: At my day job I use 103RE's and 103CB's, and Rowley's crossworks. I use QTCreator to write code due to its excellent autocomplete and cross referencing, but compile and download with crossworks as qt doesn't cross compile for these kinds of chips.
