regarding commercial development: We see a lot of commercial development happening on Maple, companies seem to prefer the 32bit Maple over 8 and 16 bit alternatives for lots of good reasons. We have seen quite a few commercial products where the prototype was done on Maple (plus a shield or something) and then the core circuitry was re-layed out for the high volume production version. We have also seen some low volume (< 500) commercial stuff shipping with stock Maples inside the chasis, which is awesome!

Feel free to write us an email at info at leaflabs dot com if you want to chat about commercial work, specs, and volume pricing, etc. etc.

also, glad to hear you got things working. By default, after reset, the board will come up in regular (non-perpetual bootloader mode) and jump to user code after a few seconds. If you dont touch anything besides reset (no BUT), it should blink fast, then slow, then jump to user code. There is one exception - if you just flashed a new bootloader fresh, there is no user code to jump to. It that case it runs in perpetual bootloader mode by default (slow blinks forever).

If you are just running regular user code (your sketch), then the board needs to be reset in order to be reprogrammed. Thankfully, the IDE and unix toolchain do this for you by signaling for a reset over the serial port. For this auto-reset to work, you need to have the correct serial port selected in the drop down menu. As you might expect, the serial port wont come up in perpetual bootloader mode, but you can program it anyway.

Are these boards something that can be deployed in a commercial application, or are they only to be used in development and some other source if a product is developed with them?

You are free to include Maple boards in commercial applications. See the libmaple LICENSE file for source code license.

Success Finally.

here are some of my notes:

1 - When I first got the board, it seemed to only start in perpetual bootloader state. The slow blinking was the default the board was in, trying to get to a slower blink was rather frustrating and made me think that something was not working. Not matter how fast I pushed the BUT button after the pushing of of reset had no effect. Finally found this out by by waiting till several seconds after the blinking lights I pushed the BUT button and to my surprise, the lights started blinking faster. (I assume non-perpetual bootloader).

2 - I tried the instructions at this post: http://forums.leaflabs.com/topic.php?id=73#post-788, and then tried again- worked.

Now can't wait to start playing with this thing.

Thanks for all the help.

A bit off topic but question:

Are these boards something that can be deployed in a commercial application, or are they only to be used in development and some other source if a product is developed with them?

thx

erg144 - sorry to hear you are having trouble. The windows install isnt great, we are working on it.

It sounds like you are not actually in perpetual bootloader mode. In that mode, there should be no serial port. So if the port is talking to you over serial (showing you the test program we flash at the factory) then you are not in perpetual bootloader mode.

If you are in perpetual mode, then you should see a slow-blink for ever. Its important to push the button right after you release reset so as not to miss the window. Here is a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvNIeKuXsxM

Darth Maker - If you push and hold the button first and then press reset, you will drop into serial bootloader mode - which is used for reflashing the bootloader.

I've always had to push the BUT button first, then press and release reset, then release the BUT button.

You don't install the Serial driver until after you upload the first program.

Make sure you followed these instructions to a "T," including the link to the Win7 workaround.

(I refuse to look up AGAIN how to post links in this forum.)

I will not be of much help, since I don't have Win7.
I received the Maple Native last week, and use the linux toolchain for compiling and uploading, it works really well.

Hope some win7 user can help you out.

Sorry - for the rant, getting a bit frustrated.

Windows 7 32 bit
Maple Rev 5 (but the ide only has Rev 3 for the boards)
I am trying to use the Maple IDE, will make an attempt at using the Eclipse stuff next week

The perpetual boot loader technique does not seem to put the board into the correct state. (push the reset, then while fast blinking press and hold the BUT button )

The board is working, when I bring up the serial monitor and type most any key, the demo program prints things out..

Give us something to work with:
Which operation system are you trying this on?

Which version of Maple do you have?

Are you using the Maple IDE?

The more you tell, the simpler it gets to help you.

I've spent many frustrating hours to try and load the simplest program and the only thing I can accomplish is the "could not find the DFU" error message.

I've unistalled, reinstalled installed the DFU driver first then serial, installed serial first then the DFU driver, installed them both at the same time, I tried with no driver, I've tried with system drivers. I've tried perpetual boot loader, (which does not seem to work). I've tried while holding the buttons down, holding the BUT first then doing restart, holding the restart then pressing the BUT, holding both and while standing on my head, but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone know of a simple and reliable way to get past the "DFU not found so I will not load your program" error message?
