gbulmer,

Skills ? I can code , not pro but hardware is my strong point . got eagle and a reflow oven . and mad smd skills .

here is what i am working on . A robotics board . it will include the following :

1 8 channel mux or ppm encoder for rc servo control
2 digital IO broken out ie GPIO spi i2c usart usb
3 invensence mpu - 6000
3 magnetometer
4 MS5611-01BA03 absolute pressure
5 2 separate differential pressure sensors
6 video ?
7 cake
8 anything else that is cool (taking suggestions )

3. What sort of video processing ability will it support?

I don't work for LeafLabs, so I can't say what will be on their board, but these videos illustrate some capability:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoTuMJFUb7g
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HENNPZHFrg0

...4. what can I do to help contribute?

What skills have you got? Do you write code for embedded systems? If not, would you like to?

Several of us are working on a libmaple/Wiring style library for STM32F4, based on ala42's initial cut.
http://forums.leaflabs.com/topic.php?id=1268&page=2#post-7828
http://forums.leaflabs.com/topic.php?id=1505

You could work on that with only a STM32F4Discovery which is widely available for $16 now. The board is the one used for video in those videos. It also has an accelerometer, digital audio output, and a digital microphone.

5. Will this allow me to built a robot that responds to my wife's nagging?

It isn't clear what the robot would need to do, but why would she settle for a robot, when she has the 'real thing' :-)

The STM32F4Discovery has a digital microphone, and 24bit stereo digital audio output. So if you wanted to do some simple speech analysis (or just detect the tone of voice used), then respond with your own pre-recorded voice samples (maybe "yes hon", and "no dear"), then that is probably doable :-)

(full disclosure: I am not a member of LeafLabs staff.)

Hey
I've been watching the development of maple 2 and I have a few question.
1. Any hint as to which chip in the f4 line you are using
2. What is the status of ret6 ? Will future ide support it? Or will it be dumped in the river like so many bags of kittens?
3. What sort of video processing ability will it support?
4.what can I do to help contribute?
5. Will this allow me to built a robot that responds to my wife's nagging?
