Am getting the IDE now and will install later tonight or in the morning. Taking your advice gbulmer -- I should just try it out and see what happens. My Maple has been shipped and might arrive tomorrow or Friday.

feurig -- when I get the IDE installed and running I will try what you suggest, although am not familiar with git's powershell, but will check it out.

thanks to you both for advice so far.

seems like there was an updated windows toolchain guide floating around.....

I did some experimentation with just putting the toolchain in from the maple die in the path and using make with gits powershell. That worked pretty well.

seandeg - I am very 'touchy-feely', and need to try using something in order to decide if I like it. So I'd recommend downloading and trying the IDE.

hi gbulmer,
no I had not tried to use malloc, was being cautious by reading the documentation first before downloading and installing.

Thanks for the link to that post.

seandeg - Have you tried to use malloc?

I typed "malloc" into the search box, and the first search result is this:

Thanks for the reply gbulmer,

I was looking at
http://leaflabs.com/docs/unix-toolchain.html
but did not look closely enough -- it does indeed say...(including Win32 versions).
Thanks for that.

Another question -- in the Maple Library Reference at
http://leaflabs.com/docs/libraries.html
a restriction is mentioned -- no dynamic memory allocation allowed -- "If you’re looking for something from the C standard library (like atoi(), for instance): the CodeSourcery GCC compiler used to compile your programs is configured to link against newlib, and allows the use of any of its header files. However, dynamic memory allocation (malloc(), etc.) is not available."

If writing directly in C does this restriction apply ? am gusssing that it applies only to wirish.

I don't understand what documentation you've been looking at, but

http://leaflabs.com/docs/maple-ide-install.html#id2

offers Windows XP download.

As a college project - a robotic_to_some_extent toy tracked vehicle - am thinking of using the Maple. It looks to be the only , or one of very few, ARM architecture based development boards that has a good amount of PWM outputs for motors and I2C interfaces for cameras and sensors.I will use C language.

In the documentation only linux/unix toolchain mentioned. Is there a way to build using windows XP host ? Would a toolchain that targets the STM32F103RB be good enough ( if the libmaple library can be included in its list ) --- for example CrossWorks for ARM -C/C++, YAGARTO, free or restricted versions from IAR and others.
