our forums are currently driven via bbPress. Ill hunt around and see if there is a plugin or some such thing to improve forum formatting. Or we could come up with a standard, such a pastebin style code sharing. Clearly we need something better eventually, I would switch forum backends (although porting the old posts over is sometimes nontrivial) rather than try and "add" this feature ourselves.

I realise you're very busy, and this isn't urgent ...

Would it be practical to implement some forum formatting like the Arduino forum's 'code' blocks?

Key properties (for me) are:
1. The post contains a limited height window, so a very long piece of code doesn't consume a lot of height on a page
2. Indents and layout like line breaks are preserved
3. C escape sequences are preserved.

I've had some problems, as have others, with backslash zero being consumed (I try to write it here in backquotes and it won't work without a space
'\ 0'
)
