The Maple looks like two different USB devices (only one at a time).
Upload is a USB DFU device. Whe Maple is running as a USB serial device, it has to be told to reset to a DFU device.
I believe Perpetual bootloader mode is a USB DFU device.

Look at http://forums.leaflabs.com/topic.php?id=178
for more details.

(full disclosure: I am not a member of LeafLabs staff)

Problem solved with the help of old forum information by
poslathian, Key Master (just a few seconds before I gave up !!)
http://forums.leaflabs.com/topic.php?id=178

Thanks.
The solution is simple: Load a program, eventhough there is no com port.
Strange, but I could not belive I can try to program the Maple if it was not recognized as a serial port (there was no port number to use for the IDE).
It works nice and clean, the port number showed up after program load (I used one of the example programs fore that).

Well,
I followed the reflashing bootloader instructions, and all went well except that I still can not see my boards (2) as USB COM ports.
I used
"python.exe E:\Maple\stm32loader.py -p COM4 -evw E:\Maple\maple_boot-rev3-9c5f8e.bin"
The reflash loaded all lines and verified OK.

I do not get now the Unrecognized device any more, and I can load the driver, but I still get the endlessly blinking LED, which I assume indicates that the flash was not really fully cleared and reloaded, or else, where does the blinking LED comes from?
Looks like the newly loaded flash did not contain a viable USB port.
Any idea?
Thanks samtal

Thanks robodude666
The perpetual bootloader mode does not work as it should either (or I misunderstand the instructions).
The reset runs OK, but when holding the BUT, the BUT button prevents the reset from running (no blinking).
The program I have loaded is the blinking LED example, but I may have modified it, which could spoil the GPIO.
I can make that blinking LED program to run by pressing the BUT while reset in blinking.
I am naturally unable to load another program.

Do I need to re-flash (http://leaflabs.com/docs/bootloader.html#bootloader-reflashing) the bootloader or is there an easier way to reset the unit to its original default?

Thanks

Have you tried the perpetual bootloader mode?

What type of a program do you have running on the Maple already? Programs that modify the GPIO associated with USB, disable the usb interrupts, etc. will break the auto-reset functionality of the bootloader.

Hello,
I have 2 Maple r5 units that originally worked satisfactory (except some USB hung issues).
Recently, it became unable to connect the USB.
On both units, I get the USB message "Unrecognized Device".
Here are some observations:
1. Power is supplied.
2. The reset key works OK, blinks as normal.

Here are the steps I took:
1. Tried on several computers (All WinXp, drivers available)
2. Replaced the USB cable.
3. Reset the boards many times.
4. Tried to reload the Maple driver (can not load because the board is not recognized)

There are several options to the problem:
1. I may have damaged both boards (Unlikely, as the reset program runs).
2. I do not use the boot loader correctly (The instructions are not clear).

Can anyone help me out with this?
Thanks

samtal
