This would realy be helpful in the documentation.
or at least in the wiki.

it is in the documentation.

I change Maple bootloader and use serial communication (not a DFU) with custom protocol. You can see maple-bootloader branch but i use my own implementation. For download also custom host software. So i not need install DFU driver (and libusb).

I used an FTDI USB to 3.3V serial cable:
http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9717
to program my DIY STM32F board. That is a USB converter.

It works fine. Plug it into the Maples USART1 pins, and the other end into a PC USB socket.

Then use one of the upload programs, like the Python one (mentioned somewhere here, but also at http://www.micromouseonline.com/category/processors/stm32 somewhere).

The boot loader allows the signal to be sent serialy on the maples usb port.

What?
There are two bootloaders in a Maple.
One is manufactured into the chip by ST Micro, and loads over USART1.
The other is loaded into the chip by LeafLabs, and loads over the on-board USB.

So your saying you used the serial programmer?
The boot loader allows the signal to be sent serialy on the maples usb port.
I am confused what you mean?

i use 2 month yet serial protocol for stm32 (maple) for programming and share usb with all use code (not a separate in user code space) - it's not a problem - you can use it also

programmer has anyone tried the serial port programmer from sparkfun for programing a maple with a new bootloader?

http://www.sparkfun.com/products/714

then can a usb converter be used?

because that would be a very cost effective way to program a maple.

~75 for the debugger from sparkfun.
