Perfect sense...

I really need a 3.3v reference anyway so I guess I'm good!
I was thinking about using a skywire from the aref pin to the terminal. but I agree it might be really noisy.

VAA is the analog power plane, and is the output of the voltage regulator labeled MCP1 on the schematics. VAA is always at 3.3V, and VAA and VREF are tied together (accidentally), so VREF should always be at 3.3V.

Disconnecting VREF from VAA is going to be tricky, because it connects to the analog power plane in a way that's not really fixable just by cutting a trace. Well, like, you could cut the trace from VAA to the VREF pin on the chip, but then you would also be severing VREF's connection to the header, so you'd have to supply your reference voltage from a skywire or something, which would probably be unusably noisy.

Does that make sense? I feel like I'm having a hard time articulating this properly.

I'm just thinking if VAA is on the same net as VREF I might be able to trace back a solution.

All of the schematics are available as PDF and postscript in the Native's Git repo:

https://github.com/leaflabs/maplenative/tree/master/schematicpdfs

However, I think (don't quote me, though; I only do software) that the schematics don't have the error; I believe it's a layout issue. Will confirm w/ Jess.

Wait... VAA is the supply to the chip and 3.3v pin etc.. correct?
I need it to be tied to the 3.3v supply for this project.

Will it be implemented in code soon?

@jessb
lol.

Can I cut it free from the VAA plane?
Perhaps?

There has to be a mod.

Sooooo unfortunately there's actually a routing error that makes VREF unusable on the betas (it's permanently tied to VAA due to an oversight when filling the power planes). I'm very sorry! This will definitely be fixed in rev1, and I'm adding it to the errata right away. In the meantime you'll have to make do with 3.3V.

From:
http://arduino.cc/forum/index.php/topic,58048.0.html

The port can be found here...
http://crocketteng.com/downloads/5/

It works with the processing code on the arduino page cited above.
I will upload video when I can get it.

Also the ReferenceVoltage() for my Maple Native is not working yet... SO the values are a bit unstable
