The only thing I had to do was copy the rule and restart udev:

sudo cp support/scripts/45-maple.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/45-maple.rules
udevadm control --reload-rules

As far as I know there is no plugdev group needed for Fedora.

Here's a question: what's the translation for this section on udev?

http://leaflabs.com/docs/unix-toolchain.html#toolchain-udev

Is there a Fedora equivalent to the "plugdev" group? On Debian, being a member of this group lets you touch USB devices without being root.

Nice, I'm glad to see Fedora get some love! I'm sure I'll be around to answer any
questions.

I just installed and tested the IDE on a 32bit FC13 eeePC with JDK1.5 and it seems to run and compile sketches fine.

The only change I had to make to the docs was:

1. I had to set the path for the maple-ide: PATH=$PATH:/path to maple-ide
2. yum install java to get JDK1.5

Yup, build-essential is the dev system. Thanks a lot for all the information; I'll look into it and see if I can't improve the docs for Fedora.

The title of this thread states Fedora 12 but I was mistaken, it is Fedora 14 x86_64:

uname -a:
Linux x4.net 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Oct 18 23:57:44 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have no plans to use the Maple IDE but it does not run on this install of Fedora since it is x86_64 and the IDE libs are 32bit.

I'm assuming that build-essential is the dev system?

If so (and I can't test this for completeness) from memory I usually start with:

yum install gcc*
yum install glibc
yum install automake
yum install gdb
yum install subversion
yum install valgrind
yum install git

OR you can get everything in one pass (with lots of crap you don't need) with:

yum groupinstall "Development Tools"

If you try the groupinstall you can just look at the package names it produces and
pick the ones you need. But I think the ones I listed above should be it.

corguy: thanks for the info! i've folded them into the docs sources:

https://github.com/leaflabs/leaflabs-docs/commit/1e65903117ab0904c4cf69a2d1949e5239cd3766

do you know the equivalent yum package to build-essential, etc. offhand? it would be nice to include that as well, for completeness.

Just wanted to provide a little documentation for Fedora since the docs are fairly generic regarding Linux.

I followed the docs here: http://leaflabs.com/docs/unix-toolchain.html and was
able to build and install the example program on the Maple using the bootloader. I've
not tried openocd/jtag yet.

I started with a working development system(gcc/make/gdb/etc) and python so
the packages below are all that were needed and I used yum to install them:

yum install screen wget git pyserial dfu-util openocd

Other packages you might need: gdb python and the standard development tools like make, gcc, glibc-devel, etc.

All the other unix toolchain documentation works fine for Fedora12 and should work for any FC release.
