Now this is not really related to the Maple, but saw this just before I saw you wanted to build a rubiks cube solver :)

TAOS make colour sensors:
http://www.taosinc.com/productfamily.aspx?id=5&SD=cs

I haven't used them, but friends and I have used other TAOS parts, and they work well.

Mouser seems to stock them:

Hi, Getting the datasheet "might" allow me to know which pin to read? The ebay seller replied, they do not know any more information than it is given on the selling page. Which included a few specs about the module but little on the interfacing / codes. Base on the given information I have, it seems even for my application (reading 1 bit at a time and figure out the RGB value seems very difficult).

Are there any resource regard to such topic on the internet? Many of the forum post on the internet are people trying to get camera working (such as taking pictures, or video).

Thank you very much for the input on the situation, because I am actually a bit confused

*Edit, I think this sort of application might be too complex for my level, and many of the post I read online are often like this: The "asker" think it can be done, and "easy". But most mod tried to explain to them the difficulty. And they often ended at the limitation on the hardware. If that's the case, I think I will move to building some simple color sensor which I might have a stronger chance of building 9 of them and scan the cube that way... (maybe 1 by 1 at a time, depend how well I can build them).

Thank you again for the helps,
Sincerely,
George

Write to the ebay seller. The chances of guessing the correct pin-outs is quite small without help.
If they can't give any help, you might need to look elsewhere.

It looks like an Omnivision product, the diagram at eBay looks exactly like the one in this brochure:
http://www.ovt.com/download_document.php?type=sensor&sensorid=74

More details at http://www.ovt.com/products/sensor.php?id=74

This seems to be a description of a generic camera interface
http://www.ovt.com/download_document.php?type=document&DID=63
maybe Omnivision will point you at the correct application notes?

I looked at the datasheets and it seems you have to sign an NDA to get one.

Hello everyone,

I am trying to build a robik's cube solving robot, but the first step before the algorithms, the stepper which move the cube. I am working on the data collection for the (state) of the cube. I am looking for a CMOS camera / other camera module that would allow me to sample 9 pixels each time. And it will base on the RGB readings to determine what color is that block. I don't need to take the picture, store the picture.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CMOS-Camera-Module-OV7670-Display-Active-Size-640X480-/280735741580?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item415d27768c

I have my eye on this one, however, it doesn't have any information about how it is actually interfacing, and... there are no code of any sort.

So my question is, what does it require to do (connect the pins, program)? And if this is not a good choice, are there better option for my need?

Thank you very much,
Sincerely,
George
